My mixed media collage art is from the heart. I am a lifelong bookworm, no apologies offered, and my works---contemporary art usually made from pieces from old, salvaged hard- and paperback books--- are a tribute to reading, publishing, the bookbinder's craft, and to readers and book owners everywhere.... and long ago.
Although I have used everything from sandpaper and washi, to matchbooks and three dimensional objects in my collage art and assemblages, I am best known for using parts of old, beat up, salvaged hardback books. I try to keep things organic, using the pieces as I find them, without adding paint or other alterations. The result; contemporary art made with materials from the past!
My abstract art is an elegy to history and the passage of time itself, and an example of the art of recycling. The time worn patina and sometimes faded colors of the materials reflect the human handprints of ownership; the use of scattered words, phrases, alphabets, and languages remind us that there are cultures besides our own, reflecting the story of humanity.
